linux
- Three shutdowns, three causes
A storage box behind a DJI power station went down three times in two days with the battery near 95 %. The journals gave three different endings.
- Install Window Maker as a startx session on Gentoo
Install Window Maker 0.96.0 and four dockapps on Gentoo, seed ~/GNUstep, autostart the dockapps and start it from a tty with startx.
- Enable Wake-on-LAN on Fedora with a Realtek r8169 NIC
Make a Realtek r8169 NIC on Fedora or Bazzite keep magic-packet Wake-on-LAN across shutdowns under NetworkManager, then wake the host from a MikroTik router.
- Confine a coding agent's HTTPS to an allowlist with bwrap
Run a command, such as a coding agent, in bubblewrap with no network except HTTPS to allowlisted hosts, through a 97-line Python proxy on the host.
- The poller that wasn't stuck
One timestamp an hour older than its process sent me after a hung Go poller. A goroutine dump killed that theory; a local-time RTC after DST explained it.
- The config said 32k. The engine still ran 64k.
Adding SIGHUP reload to a Go LLM proxy: a whitelist of three settings, a model list that runs ahead of the engines, and a refresh that finished last.
- My isolation guard checked itself
A guard meant to prove my Go tests couldn't reach the live proxy compared a path with the env var it guarded, and passed on any shell that had set it.
- The mutant was killed after it switched a real GPU
A hand-written mutant made my Go CLI skip -proxy. Its test failed on cue, after a real model load that then kept a benchmark off a GPU for almost half an hour.
- The test rig was the unsafe part
A suite that tells six coding agents to run rm -rf and docker system prune had a throwaway HOME and bwrap --unshare-net. Neither isolated what it needed to.
- Simulate a cold start without rebooting or drop_caches
Evict one file from the Linux page cache as a normal user with posix_fadvise, prove it with fincore, and start a container that reads it cold.
